Up again at nine and tried doing better. No can do ;-) This time I had to walk for a couple of minutes and the 5.1 km trip took the same 30 minutes as yesterday. Well the pain in my thighs is back so something must be working. Down to 83,5 kg but was probably heavily dehydrated.

Back from vacation
Summertime is time for sunshine so I’ve been on a 14 day trip to Alghero, Sardinia.

It was very nice there but no place for me to be jogging. The temparatures reached 35 celsius and the sun was burning hot until 19:30! I noticed quite a few people that where jogging though. Anyways I hadn’t planned to jog there so I didn’t bring shoes and all I did was walk along the beach and a little yoga-excercises.
Well this morning I tried getting back and did the 5,1 km round at Vestre Kirkegård. Finished in 30 minutes and thats not to bad – I had no stops. -
The morning after…
Got up at nine and did the same 7,3 km as yesterday evening. This time in 41 minutes. Well what did I expect? Slowly realizing how far I am from being able to complete 21 km ;-)
-
Improving
Tonight I did the 7,3 km in 40 minutes. The pain in my thighs are getting a lot better.

Trying to keep up
Today I did 7,3 km in 43 minutes which is not to bad but… I hurt when I started out and I had to walk for a couple of minutes halfway because of side stitch. On the bright side that should make my average speed (while running) better than usual which in turn might have been the reason I had to walk for a bit.
I hope that today I have stretched out after running so I wont have the pains I’ve had after the last few runs and I know next time will be better. -
Finished The Camera
Just finished reading “The Camera” – the first of three books written by legendary photographer Ansel Adams.
Very good information in here. Though some is related to analog days and view cameras there’s a lot of technical terms, detail and insight to learn about from Ansel.
Highly recommendable reading if you are interested in photography beyond snapshooting. -
Double-duty at Kastellet
Today we did two rounds at Kastellet totalling around 7,5 km. Not a good run, I think because I had a rough weekend, had to make pauses due to stomach-aches. Also the guys are running faster than I should ;-) Note to self: While fun as long as it last excessive alcohol consumption must be avoided.
-
Afterwork running
This afternoon at five PM my colleague Tommy and I ran the route to Kastellet and back in less than 30 minutes.
Today was also the day when I commited to sign up for Sparta’s Powerade Halvmarathon together with my good friend Sara. -
This evening I ran 5,15
Did the usual round at Vestre Kirkegård. This time at 28 minutes – the fastest until now – at an average speed of 11,4 km/hour.
-
Sunday morning up at nine and 9,56 km before ten
Did 9,56 in around 58 minutes which is a first for me. For the first time I tried tripling the lenght of the rubble path at the cemetery. Feeling really good about it. Threw away 1,1 kg as well! That will of course mostly be water ;-)

Hot-dogs and 7,4 km in 44 minutes
Today the guys at the office and I went for a hotdog at Løgismose Grill Bar at Nimb. The dogs are very recommendable especially the ringridersausage with bear’s garlic was a delight.
After consuming this and a little beer in the wine-cellar we split up and went home.
I decided after this I would have to extend my planned jogging and drew a new route that I completed without stops. -
5 km in under 30 minutes
This may not sound as a major achievement but those that know me may feel different ;-} Today I finally got down to 29 minutes doing my usual round of Vestre Kirkegård and Carlsberg.

Exercise
June went by with an 8 session 4 week intro course by Mette Ørum-Nielsen. I was overwhelmed by the positive effect and I’m sure I will continue with yoga at some level.
At the same time I’ve started to jog at regular intervals together with a colleague of mine and last but not least my man Jan and I took some turns on our rollerskates round the Avedøre-bridge. -
Enable Mac OS X 10.5 syslogd to receive log from router
To enable your Leopard system to receive network syslog submissions edit:
/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.syslogd.plistUncomment the paragraph commented:
"Un-comment the following lines to enable the network syslog protocol listener".Then execute the following commands:
sudo launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.syslogd.plist
sudo launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.syslogd.plistThat should allow your external device to dump it’s log into the system log.
If you have firewall enabled make sure to allow the traffic (UDP 514) from router. -
Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G
Fell over a fantastic deal for this legendary workhorse I couldn’t resist even though it’s overlapping the 17-35mm and I had previously considered it too big and expensive.
I have not been disappointed. It is as sharp as they say and color reproduction is wonderful. Also the zoom range is very useful for general usage.
After some consideration I decided it was too much having this and the 17-35mm so I sold the 17-55mm off. -
Nikon D300 8 fps with no grip
Some say you can trick the D300 to go by 8 fps by using the auto bracketing feature without any compensation.
– Fn button set for Bracketing Burst
– E5 to flash only
– E6 to flash only
– Set a 9 shot Bracket
Don’t use a Flash
Hold in your Fn Button and trigger away -
Nikon D300
A while ago I convinced myself it was a good idea to part with the 28mm f/1.4D to finance the purchase of a brand new D300.
The D300 is a wonderful camera with an amazing high ISO performance. I love everything about the switch from the D2h except the file size/post processing time. Also recently I realized that the grip-size is useful when holding the camera with large lens and flash attached so I’ve convinced myself I need the MB-D10 to make the D300 feel more like the D2h in this regard. Also I have to admit to missing the vertical release.

Nikkor-Reflex 500mm f/8
I fell for a cheap and light-weight super-tele taking me far beyond the 200mm that used to be my farthest option.
This is by no means stellar optics and with locked aperture at f/8 it does need a lot of light. Either way it’s 500mm (equals 750mm on dSLR with crop-factor) so you have to have a steady hand or preferably a pod to achieve sharpness. It has a fun doughnut effect bokeh that can be used creatively but looks very unusual. -
Ups, I went and did it again…
This time I convinced myself I had to try the AF DX Fisheye-Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8G ED. It’s a fun lens that gives photography another dimension and has amazing color.

17-35mm f/2.8D ED-IF
Seeing it was my birthday and all I went of and bought the best zoom ever made. I got it used from a local photographer and though it’s not looking like new it’s not banged up and most importantly I got to try it out on my own camera and study the results before I bought it.
So far I’m very happy with the result it has given me – it’s filling the void I’ve felt since parting with my beloved 20mm f/2.8D. Also it’s very nice to have the relative short zoom range but still not fixed. -
Nikon Coolscan V
Following the acquisition of an analog 35 mm film camera I searched and found a used Nikon Coolscan V in Åre, Sweden by means of fotosidan.se classifieds section.
It’s a great scanner if you have patience and color negatives and positives to scan. It takes a lot of time to scan the film but if the capture is good the scanned result is equally good. Initially i had some problems with green noise in the shadows of underexposed images but after looking into the options available and the different function. RTFM!
Black and white negatives are another story – I found that the ICE (noise reduction) does not work with silverbased B&W film. ICE should work with C41 dye-based film though but I have yet to confirm this. -
Nikon F4
Having acquired a couple of Nikkors I gathered it would be fun to try out some serious analog photography and wound up buying an old F4. It’s great fun and a new feeling coming from 8 years of digital. Now I need a Nikon Coolscan V to make the film digital ;-}

Xmas last till easter…
They say. Well, time flies and easter has come. Winter is over and we’re into some beautiful blue skies here in Denmark.
In the time that’s passed I’ve tuned my photo gear a little with a 80-200mm f/2.8D ED AF Zoom-Nikkor. For a long time I’d been telling myself it was too heavy but at last I realized that the convenience of zoom range between 80 and 200mm was probably more useful than the fixed 180mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF Nikkor that has been my sole tele option above 85mm up until now.
The 85mm f/1.8D was sold and instead I got me the legendary 85mm f/1.4D. The 1.8 version is a very nice performer but the 1.4 version is simply magic.
I’ve also aqcuired a couple of cheap 50mm MF Nikkors to play with. They are great for learning and it’s quite fun to use the aperture ring instead of the on-camera wheel. -
Merry xmas everybody
Yesterday was the last day at work and we where going to a cocktail-party at Hank ‘n Cleo’s in the evening.
Today I finally sold the classic Nikon AF 50mm f/1.4D Nikkor lens to cover damages from the 28mm’s impact on my cashflow. I got what I wanted for it so I’m pleased with the situation even though it’s was a nice lens to use and a little sad to let it go.
The cashflow situation is further in jeopardy due to the current season – xmas you know – and the fact that my car was in the shop the other day and I was taken to the cleaners figuratively speaking :-{ Oh well, it’s water under the bridge – or will be soon – and we just have to move on.
Tomorrow it’s xmas eve and we are spending the afternoon and evening together with the familiy going through the usual xmas rituals. The kids are all exited about it by now. -
Nikon 28mm f/1.4D Nikkor
Today I sold a 35mm f/2D Nikkor and shelled out a small fortune on a 28mm f/1.4D Nikkor though it was a very favorable price for this lens. It is one solid lens that I hope I will be happy with for a long time to come. This lens is said to be very good for low-light handheld being relatively wide. Looking forward to use it a lot as my primary stay-on no. 1.

Whoaaa, MacBook Pro arrived
Yesterday I recieved a new MacBook Pro with the Core 2 Duo processor, courtesy of my employer.

This is one fast computer. Sad to say the greatest advantage at this time is the pace at which it runs Windows. I have never seen a faster install of Windows XP SP2 and Office on any computer and this is when running inside Parallel’s virtualization.
This effectively kills the need to have a PC around to run Windows only apps.
Off course it is also fast in general Mac OS X operation and when Universal Binaries are available but I can’t wait to see the Adobe Creative Suite as Universal Binary. -
Nikon D70 sold
Today my trusty first dSLR was sold. It has served me well and since I got a great deal when I got it and a fair deal when sold it has actually cost me nothing to use for the last 21 months. If I had not been so unfortunate to damage it I may even have made money from selling it.
The new owner seemed very pleased with the camera coming from a D50 he was so kind to lend to someone who destroyed it!
