  • Enable Mac OS X 10.5 syslogd to receive log from router

To enable your Leopard system to receive network syslog submissions edit:
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.syslogd.plist

Uncomment the paragraph commented: "Un-comment the following lines to enable the network syslog protocol listener".

    Then execute the following commands:
    sudo launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.syslogd.plist
    sudo launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.syslogd.plist

That should allow your external device to dump it’s log into the system log.
If you have firewall enabled make sure to allow the traffic (UDP 514) from router.

  • Whoaaa, MacBook Pro arrived

Yesterday I recieved a new MacBook Pro with the Core 2 Duo processor, courtesy of my employer.

    MacBook Pro 15

This is one fast computer. Sad to say the greatest advantage at this time is the pace at which it runs Windows. I have never seen a faster install of Windows XP SP2 and Office on any computer and this is when running inside Parallel’s virtualization.

This effectively kills the need to have a PC around to run Windows only apps.
Off course it is also fast in general Mac OS X operation and when Universal Binaries are available but I can’t wait to see the Adobe Creative Suite as Universal Binary.
